During Selichos we beat our chests and confess our sins as a community, saying Ashamnu, Bagadnu. But why do we confess sins that maybe we personally didn't commit? This teaches us the concept of kol Yisrael areivim zeh bazeh, that all Jews are responsible for one another. When your fellow Jew sins, you have a responsibility.

Selichot's communal confession (Ashamnu, Bagadnu) stems from the fundamental Torah obligation of *Kol Yisrael areivim zeh bazeh*—all Israel is responsible for one another. Your fellow Jew's sins are your problem; failure to rebuke them makes you complicit. We confess all sins, even those not personally committed, acknowledging our collective failure to prevent sin and help one another do Teshuvah. This mutual obligation is fundamental for every Jew.
